Transformative Feedback: How to Create “Fast-Learning” Clients

Do you get frustrated with your clients getting “stuck” or not progressing at the rate you’d like? It can be easy to place blame on your clients, or situational challenges like virtual training. However, a primary inhibitor to your clients’ progression could be your feedback.

Learn an evidence-based way to coach your clients so that they progress faster and further

Discover how the common “coaching” strategies we so often use in fitness inhibit the natural learning process, which leads to short-term, less reliable changes. Then, learn an evidence-based way to teach your clients that supports their natural learning process, so they progress faster and create sustainable changes that last.

Course Overview

What You’ll Learn
Upon Completion, You Will:
  • Understand the natural learning process and why it is the most powerful way to create long-term sustainable improvements
  • Recognize how common “coaching” strategies can inhibit the natural learning process and lead to less reliable or consistent changes.
  • Learn how to optimize your feedback to enhance your clients’ natural learning process so they progress faster and further.
  • Discover how to teach your clients to become better problem solvers on their own to further accelerate their progress.

Course Contents

The course consists of 6 learning modules that you progress through at your own pace (about 5-6 hours). Click on the purple links to watch a small excerpt from the module.

Discover the fascinating process by which we naturally learn and how this leads to long-term mastery, adaptability, and permanent changes. Learn the key components of natural learning, and why they are especially important for the pre & postnatal population.

See how many fitness professionals today focus on performance-style feedback, which actually inhibits the natural learning process and can therefore lead to short-term, less reliable changes.

Learn how to provide feedback in a manner that supports your client’s natural learning process by using an evidence-based 3-step process called Error-Detection. We’ll break down steps 1 and 2 with plenty of examples and practice.

Dive into the final step of the 3-Step Error-Detection process. Learn what, when, and how to communicate feedback to your clients depending on the situation and client’s skill level with plenty of examples and practice.

Now practice going through the entire 3-step process for several different client scenarios (including a pregnant client, athletic client, “desk jockey” and senior).

To help your clients truly excel, you can teach them the Error-Detection process so that they become their own problem solvers, and progress even faster. Discover how this does not minimize your value to them as a coach, but instead, enhances it.

The day after I completed this course, I applied what I learned on two clients who have zero body awareness and OH MY GOD IT OPENED UP A WHOLE NEW WORLD! It was the first time I felt like they finally “got it,” and I could see the boost to their confidence as well. I am so grateful that ProNatal created this course!

Emilie Battle, Founder Battle Body NYC, Certified Personal Trainer & Pilates Instructor

I literally implemented what I learned in this course the day after I completed it and I could immediately see the effects! I now feel much more confident about when, and how, to give my clients feedback. This course was meant to elevate my coaching skills, and I can already see it has!

Amanda Barbian, Certified Personal Trainer and Functional Nutrition Coach

This course challenges the way you might think to communicate with your clients. It teaches you how to get out of the habit of “show, tell, do" and really help your clients learn in their best way.

Chad Williamson, Certified Personal Trainer & Corrective Exercise Specialist

This course was such an eye opener for me. I think we all know that people learn best when they can figure out the solutions by themselves, but knowing how to guide a client to that point is a different ballgame. This course teaches you a step-by-step process to guide clients of all levels to that point of learning.

April Steele, Certified Personal Trainer

Learning is such an innate part of who we are, and if we can get clients to tap into that natural process, we can progress them to their goals more efficiently. However, most trainers do not use this approach. This course gave me the tools to be the personal trainer who does not “get in the way” of progress, but instead, amplifies it.

Leah Muir, Certified Personal Trainer & Owner of Muir Wellness

This course really is what it says it is – transformative feedback. It gave me the tools to be less focused on the performance-based short-term results, and much more focused on the learning-based longer-term results. In the end, that’s really what ALL our clients and patients want.

FAQs

While the principles taught in this course are especially important for the pre & postnatal population (due to the degree and pace at which their bodies change), it is not exclusive to pre & postnatal. This is a coaching philosophy that you can (and we believe should) apply with ALL your clients. Case studies are shown for pregnant clients, athletes, seniors, and “desk jockeys.”

No. Anyone interested in this course can take it. While the course is designed for personal trainers, the principles are certainly applicable for personal training, group fitness, rehabilitation work, and even parenting!

While this course was designed for Personal Trainers, it is highly beneficial for ANYONE who works with clients — group instructors, physical therapists, doulas, etc. In fact, this methodology is particularly helpful in parenting as well!

Because the material in each course is very different, the order in which you take them does not matter. It really depends on what your goals are.

If you are interested in learning the keys to training the pre & postnatal population, then definitely take the Pre/Postnatal Performance Training Specialist Course first, as this will teach you the foundational skills necessary to coach this population.

The Transformative Feedback Course will help you become a more effective coach for ALL your clients (including pre & postnatal). So, if you are more interested in improving your coaching skills, and learning material that you can apply to all your clients, then this course is a great first choice!

At the end of the course, there is a 50-minute timed exam that you take at home on your computer or device. There are 35 multiple choice questions, and you must get an 85% (30 questions correct) to pass. You can use any notes you want, but you must complete the exam within the 50 minute time limit.

If you pass, you will be able to download your certificate as soon as you complete the course. If you do not pass, you can purchase an exam re-test for $35.

Each module also contains a self-check to gauge your comprehension. These are not graded. They are purely for your learning benefit, and they serve as great preparation for the exam.

You have lifetime access to the course, so there is no deadline to complete. That said, once you start the course, we recommend trying to work through it relatively consistently because the concepts build on one another. The course is estimated to take around 5-6 hours.
